TOWN & VILLAGES OF THE ISLAND

The town of Samos and island’s main port is a relatively modern town, which developed at the site of the older port of Vathi during the end of 19th c. Over the town stands the Ano Vathi, a picturesque, traditional Aegean village. The urban complex is the modern capital of the island, with many services and amenities.

Pythagorio is the third town and harbor of the island, and stands at the place of the ancient and medieval capital of Samos. It is a beautiful small town, with many old sights and monuments. It is the heart of the most turistically developed area of the island.

Κarlovassi is the second town and harbour of the island. It is also a quite modern town, like Vathi. Its area is famous for its natural beauties and its scenic beaches.

In the island there are a lot of pictuaresque, traditional villages. Among them the following stand out:
The fishing village, and now a renown resort, of
Kokkari.

The mountainous traditional villages of
Manolates, Vourliotes, Mavratzei, Pyrgos, Spatharei, Kallithea, Drakei end Platanos.
