1st GENERATION
Dimitrios Vathiotis
In 1922, my great-grandfather Dimitrios Vathiotis came as a refugee to Samos with his family and continued the ceramic art he practiced in Sivrihisar, Asia Minor. So when he came to Samos, he built his first kiln and made a living from his art despite all the difficulties he faced. Dimitris Vathiotis made a wide variety of ceramics and was a well-known and successful craftsman of his time.
2nd GENERATION
Emmanuel Vathiotis
Emmanuel Vathiotis (son of Dimitris) was introduced to pottery since he was a teenager (12 years old) and made pots, pitchers, pots, tiles and various household items. Manolis developed into an excellent master potter. His works are in Museums in Athens and in private collections.
3rd GENERATION
Stamatia Vathiotis
In 1979, utilizing the experience and knowledge she gained about art near her father, after studying in the workshop of Mrs. Helen Kanellopoulou and in a private school of ceramics and decoration, Stamatia Vathioti reopened the workshop. He has taken part in group exhibitions through local organizations, in Athens and abroad. He recently took part in the 8th and 9th Ceramics Exhibition, in the "EXODUS" Art Gallery.
Stamatia taught ceramics to children of the Primary Schools of Samos, participating in the DOPONAS program. He also participated in the opening of the Center for the Study of Modern Ceramics through Mrs. Bettis Psaropoulos and earlier in the exhibition of East Aegean ceramists. He collaborated with the Italian painter-sculptor Carlo Carosso. Part of the collection of this collaboration is on display in our workshop in Karlovasi.
In 1982, Vagelio also joined the production, after studying alongside her sister, Stamatia.
All these years, Patra Vathioti has been painting in the workshop, next to her daughters.
4th GENERATION
Emmanuela Makris-Vathiotis
In 2014, Emmanuela (daughter of Stamatia), after completing her studies at the National Technical University of Athens, as a Chemical Engineer as well as a Masters in Finance, decided to continue art and the family tradition.
She operates her own laboratory in the village of Manolates in Samos. Emmanuela creates her own pottery forms and paints new patterns, also inspired by tradition.
He recently took part in the 8th and 9th Ceramics Exhibition, in the "EXODUS" Art Gallery.
